Jamie Principle & Frankie Knuckles - Your Love (1985)

Oldschool classic featured in the film. Sounds like a contemporary track until the vocals kick in and give away that it's from the 80s.

Uhm..

Beautifully random. Beyonce ain't got shit.

Deux Helix

Here's another up-n-coming producer ensemble that made use of our fine little dropbox. Deux Helix have quite an interesting approach to electro. If I wouldn't have known they're from LA, I would have tipped France. Hard hitting beats, dreamy sounds, squares and saws, blips and blops, all of which I like a lot. The tracks have a dark, psychedelic, almost mystical ring to them, best suited for those foggy clubs filled with people that only come out at night. Love those places.

Hudson Mohawke

I like odd names, they intrigue me. Often you're left to find that the music doesn't live up to the coolness of the name - but not this time. Hudson Mohawke - we mentioned him the other week as he was featured on the Wireblock Records XLR8R podcast.

I'll admit, I rarely get this excited about an artist. He is one of the few that juggle with genres and does it well. Forward thinking, mainly hiphop style rhythms and clever, catchy melodies. Reminds me a bit of Flying Lotus.

His debut album "Butter" is out this October. No doubt it'll be biiiiiig.

Pre-order "Butter - Spreadable Edition" - includes the record (vinyl), an exclusive t-shirt and a sticker - all wrapped inside a Hudson Mohawke Butter tub! How kewl is that?!

Also check out his interview with FACT Magazine

Oneman - Fall For Autumn Mix 2009

Talented UK DJ Oneman supplied XLR8R with a crispy crafted mix best described in its name. Summer's coming to an end, the frequency of festivals and outdoor parties is slowly going down. Enjoy what's left of it, wrap up and then go inside cuz that's where it's happening now. This chill mix is for those that really still want to sit outside when the party is over or someplace else.
Features fresh tracks by some of the UK's most sought after artists, including Skream, Zomby, Mala, Scuba, D1 and others.

Get the mix here.

Crookers

So Crookers' highly awaited debut album "Tons of Friends" is set to finally hit the stores January 2010. Expect some Dancehall and Autotune. Along with the record comes a long list of prominent guests that will support the guys on it: Spank Rock, Major Lazer, Tim Burgess (Chemical Brothers vocalist), Roisin Murphy (former Moloko singer), Kelis, Kid Cudi, Pitbull, Radioclit, Rye Rye and Madness. Kanye is rumored to be in too, although I'm sure we wouldn't hear too many complaints if he wasn't.

Here's what they're teasing us with so far..

Retro Atari Coolness

Here's part of Atari's artwork archive which was auctioned off at Sotheby's in 2007. The entire collection included over 2,000 original marketing designs and materials from 1981 to 1983. The whole thing was expected to sell for up to $250,000. Yikes. I wonder which rich nerd has these hanging up in his bedroom.

Cashmere Agency Presents - Mr. Grustle & Tha Russian's Dubstep LA: Embrace the Renaissance Vol.1 [Mixed by Plastician]

This mix is for everyone who likes pounding their head against the wall every once in a while. Or at least likes listening to tracks brimming with intensity. This is the first comp I am aware of that combines harder UK dubstep with American dubstep and Hip Hop. Mixed by the seasoned Rinse.fm dj Plastician, this comp moves forward heavily and relatively smoothly considering the content. Aside from a couple of tracks, this is a collection of downright bangers and party anthems, perfect for drunk driving or intentionally pissing off your neighbors! But you didn't hear that from me.

In my opinion, everybody should have this mix to blow off some steam once in a while. Download and unpack this ZIP and crank up your sub.

The SCB side of Scuba

The more techno-oriented stuff isn't really my forte, although I really dig it when the time is right. And this mix just makes the time right.

Scuba, creator of Hotflush Recordings, has recently done an exclusive mix for the MNML SSGS blog under his relatively new SCB moniker. The author of the post, PC (Chris), says, "SCB's mix not only belongs among the best SSG mixes so far (which, I think I can say openly, has been an incredibly high standard), I think.... well, I'll let your ears tell your brain, but personally I reckon SCB has just re-set the standard," and comments on the post range from "scuba represents the distillation of everything that is great about electronic music in 2009" to "How nice is this ?! I thought much of the hype surrounding Scuba was just that - hype. Eating my words now. Gorgeousness. Thank you" to "This is a total burner, LOVE it!" to "unbelievable mix, this is the exact fusion of everything ive been loving out of the dubstep crossover from the last few years. but now finally it seems techno has truelly engulfed the new influences. techno is evolving once again and this is exactly where its at right now for me."

Here 'tis - enjoy!
