Monsieur Adi, poster child of Paris label Technofavrik, recently released his debut EP "We Are The Romans" and leaves us squealing for more! The french producer/fashion design student caught our attention with his remix to Ellie Goulding's Starry Eyed. The original off Goulding's no. 1 debut album is quite the hit in Europe and I'm sure it'll be the same for the States when it gets released there. It got a lil airplay in "Kick-Ass", which I watched yesterday and I gotta say I liked it.
The success of the original brought on a slew of remixes from all genres, but few are really striking. Monsieur Adi instantly stands out of the lot.
Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed (Monsieur Adi Remix)
And the rest of his music is just as pleasing to the ear. Monsieur Adi's interesting list of influences includes Vivaldi and it certainly shows. Some of his material, namely "We Are The Romans", has a very classical-influenced buildup.
Drinkmusik caught up with Monsieur Adi and got to ask him a couple o tings. Here's what he had to say about..
..his studio setup:
My studio setup is very simple with just a keyboard and a microphone and a lot of software(Audition/Ableton/Acid Pro) and VSTs. I purchased some EastWest/Quantum Leap sounds some summers ago and it's just amazing to work with if you love making cinematic orchestration. Very fantastic!
..artists we should watch out for:
Well my current favorites are definitely the cool guys who remixed my debut EP 'We Are The Romans': Flashworx, Renegade, Wolfchild, Overthrill, and Freak You. Sebastian and Christian of Overthrill have been long time friends of mine and their work is just powerful and Franck (Freak You) is not only genius at his own music, but also at discovering new talent. I have to also mention my good friend Pyramid who is just starting, but is so very talented!! Other than my friends, I love what SomethingALaMode is doing as well as Iamamiwhoami. I think that's Jonna Lee, though?
.. the US music scene compared to that in France/Europe:
Well, I did not realize how much musical taste differed depending on where you will go. The European music scene is very alive and I think there's more of a support for independent artists who don't mind experimenting with different textures and sounds and being different. The pop music scene in the US all sounds alike to me, but I think there's more out there than what's in the front.
..how to define "Drinkmusik":
You need water to survive, so music is the same. Drink music and you'll live!
Or you can just get drunk off of music.
Merci Adi!!

Punky Blaster - Live @ Gala Des Grandes Écoles (Paris)
Punky Blaster have already been convincing us of their production skills, starting with a Mr. Oizo rmx they sent us a couple months ago. It was only to be a matter of time til we got a taste of these guys live.
Here's a 20 minute rip from a gig they did in front of 400o people at Gala Des Grandes Écoles in Paris. A compilation of hard-hitting electro with plenty of thump. And a roaring mass confirming the crowd compatibility. Enjoy.

DRT UK - Track Spotlight
Picasso once said, "Good artists copy; great artists steal." This statement couldn't ring more true in electronic music. Sampling has always been a fundamental tool in composing, and the current trend in technology indicates a lot more to come.
If any of you know 16bit, you know they're a mighty production team. One of the members has a sick garage solo project, DRT. His track "Rising Sun" is a perfect example of great artists stealing. Right off the bat, you can hear a striking similarity to Ratatat in the timbre of the main line.
DRT - Rising Sun
Now listen to Ratatat's "Seventeen Years":
Ratatat - Seventeen Years
Nice.
London Crunk Crew of Trouble & Bass fame, The Boogaloo Crew, has fortunately taken note of DRT's masterpiece and refixed it with a sped-up, more syncopated beat for the dancefloor. My current song on repeat. Enjoy.

Emalkay - A.G.S.
I've had Emalkay's When I Look At You 12" for a good 4 months, and realized the other day that I have never even listened to the B-side. When I threw on A.G.S. (Angie Got Stoned) for the first time, I was stunned by the quality and beauty of every angle of the track - the bassline, the vocal sample and the shifty upbeat chords in particular.
I almost think this track should've been on the A side of some other release. This 12" is definitely one of the best buys of the past year. Sexy tune.

Pangaea
Pangaea is one of 3 who run Hessle Audio (along with Ramadanman & Ben UFO), one of my favorite labels in the UK. They've now put out 12 amazing releases, including their own stuff as well as material from Untold, TRG, Joe and James Blake. 3 of those 12 releases have been Pangaea's own, and in the line of downtempo and mellow dubstep (and even reaching over the aisle into techno), these tracks are no less than amazing.
'Router,' 'Bear Witness,' 'Memories,' 'I Can't Stop This Feeling [Pangaea remix]' and 'Why' seem the most solid of Pangaea originals, however since there really aren't that many in total, it wouldn't hurt to post the entirety of Pangaea's discog chronologically.
