MONDAY PLUGIN

And so begins a new weekly series on DRINKMUSIK, MONDAY PLUGIN. Each week we will scour the interwebz for cool new toys to use in production, DJing and so much more. The net is FULL of sites that provide free VSTs and DXis and the such, and we thought it pertinent to let all of our readers have easy access. There are also really useful ones that might cost a fee, and we will cover some of those as well.

This week:

GLITCH

Sadly only available for Windows (they have some tips for Mac users), Illformed's Glitch will change the way you think of real-time processing. It is an effects sequencer, with 9 different effects: Tapestop, Modulator, Retrigger, Shuffler, Reverser, Crusher, Gater, Delay and Stretcher. Each can be applied to a different part of your loop/sample/pattern at random or through a sequencer manually. Check out this great demo video:

So make sure you visit the site and download yourself a copy for free HERE. This might be the little edge your grooves have been waiting for!

Don't forget that if you see any cool new plugins or other devices that can be used to have fun with sound, let us know by sending an email to drinkmusik@gmail.com
Plus, we would love to hear any tunes from our readers using the plugins we feature, so use the DropBox at the top of the page!

Ableton + Serato = Friends

Basically, this was bound to happen. Ableton (aka the most efficient and reliable sequencer for across the board production and DJing) has always led the race in innovative, new ideas for electronic music. DJ sets have always been possible within the program, and integrating plugins and fx racks for manipulation is simple. They recently introduced a new component to the program allowing for MAX/MSP production with Ableton. Now they've come out with a way to include your own songs/patterns into your DJ sets. By enabling the Ableton view within Serato, a new rack displays something very similar to Live's session view, allowing the DJ to trigger beats/phrases/samples on the fly. What will they come up with next?

WHEEZ-IE

"Albuterol Laced Dubstep" sounds crass... and it is. Houston native WHEEZ-IE (Matt Mauldin) is on his way to showing you a kind of dubstep that will strip you of oxygen and make you beg for mercy (MORE!). Currently studying at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music, the bass player has taken crisp sounds from your past(?) along with dirty, gritty bass to project an image of sonic chaos on the back of the front of your skull. He's also good buddies with Houston's favorite dubstep night GRITSY. Here's a few tracks he's sent over to give you a taste:

Wheez-ie - "Death Mask"

Wheez-ie - "Untitled"

Wheez-ie - "Vent"

Native Instruments - MASSIVE THREAT

Check out this new collection of MASSIVE sounds brought to you by the great innovative minds at NI. Massive Threat is a KORE powered group of flexible sounds taken (and slightly adjusted) from the MASSIVE softsynth. NI knows where our hearts lie, so they provided some examples of the sounds from established artists Digital Mystikz (Mala & Coki), and also commissioned a more electro-acoustic approach by mimicking an old Iannis Xenakis piece!
