Over 50.000 sold units on Beatport, six respective Top 10s, three video game licenses - all in less than a year and a half - make Wolfgang Gartner an artist to keep an eye on. Well, his impressive resume comes with a long list of serious ear candy. Anyone should be quick to point out elements familiar through Deadmau5, Justice, Daft Punk, Crookers, Prydz or Switch. Gartner listed them among his influences and it definitely shows. In a reeeally good way!
In an interview with Beatportal, Gartner had a word to say about the phenomenon of sub-categorizing house music:
"..dance music is a funny thing; it’s all really the same when you step outside and look at the big picture — at least with house music. All of these sub-genres we’ve got like electro house, tech house, deep house — they are all just slight variations on this one groove that has been around since the 1980s, and are all basically just disco beats.
I can appreciate that trance and drum & bass, for example, are a completely different vibe, but I still find all of the genre separations in house music a tad funny.
At least simplify it a little bit! (laughs)"
