SINNESWANDELN
If you're in Berlin and you like to support starving artists with cool ideas, check this out:
- “Sinneswandeln” is a group of about 25 UV (black light) and light artists, who aim to fill people with enthusiasm through lavish metamorphosis of space. Fluorescent art objects and light installations transform rooms into landscapes revealing a new world with a unique ambience. Some art works even use 3D effects (which can be viewed through 3D glasses available at our exhibitions) or make use of optical illusions, making the experience of our art even more impressive and intensive. The project “Sinneswandeln” aims at the realisation of an “illusion palace” – a place of unique architecture where international UV- and Light Art shall be presented.
We love to meet other artists and get to know about their art works, visions and ideas. - (from their myspace)
Unfortunately the installation is only up until Saturday, so if you have the chance to go, be sure not to miss out. Cost: 2 Euros.
Storkower Str. 50
Berlin Prenzlauer Berg
3min from S-Bhf Greifswalder Str.
Visit their myspace for more information.

Forss
The Skandinavians never seize to impress. This kid Forss from Stockholm is quite interesting indeed. He has a relaxing, nu-jazzy, diverse sound to him and uses lots of sweet samples. The songs keep on building up and changing, so you have to really listen to the whole thing. Forss should appeal to anyone who likes listening to The Avalanches, RJD2, DJ Shadow or..uhm...jazz. He releases his records on Berlin based Sonar Kollektiv, the label founded and run by Jazzanova. (Should peek into Jazzanova's latest vid too- going with the ronson-winehouse-and-everything-else-that-sounds-like-it-was-made-35-years-ago hype by creating a catchy little motown track of their own.)

Format B in NY, May 30th!
You better write this one down guys. Format B, one of my personal favorites, is hitting stateside! With their US/Canada tour kicking off May 19th, they will be stopping by New York on the night of the 30th. Seriously people, go. These guys are badass! The venue for this gig hasn't been confirmed as of yet, but as soon as it is, you will be the first to know.I'll be lucky enough to see them a few weeks earlier in Berlin (May 10th @ Bar25), so I'll get a post up after the gig to give you an idea of what is heading your way. Also look out for them on some upcoming Drinkmusik mixes!
For now, I'll leave you with a Format B snippet I found. Enjoy!

Berlin doses NYC 01.24.09
It's always excellent news to find out that Modeselektor will be hitting up the East Coast - even though the last time they were here was only 4 months ago at the Highline Ballroom. Fresh off of a night at Igloo Fest in Montreal, Modeselektor came through New York City by means of the Bowery Ballroom, with house master Housemeister.
Venturing from Boston to NYC for a show can be a production. Gotta hype the show and to get a solid crew to head down. Find a place to stay, have enough money to survive and hopefully get hooched-up, and get home all in one piece. Needless to say, the show better be damn good, otherwise it's not worth the effort.
Good thing it's never a debate when trying to decide if Modeselektor will be good enough for the trek. We arrived at the Bowery at around 10:45 I guess? And Housemeister was already into his set. We got our buns up there and enjoyed some tight and heavy house. The crowd knew what was up when he dropped Inordertodance. It's always nice to see a DJ who produces his own stuff simply spinning records live and killing it.
After a couple of drinks, Modeselektor was on stage - relatively early. They killed the dancefloor with staples like Black Block, Hyper Hyper, Deboutonner, The Dark Side of the Sun, and 2000007, and added a few other clutch tracks (Godspeed and Sucker Pin) among some new ones, at least that I've never heard.
Their set was dope, nobody has to ever doubt that. But despite a solid set list, the show was somewhat of a disappointment. So I'll blame it on the venue! The sound was too quiet - we're supposed to feel our liver quiver! Come on Bowery! And what's up with the show being over before 2am in NYC? At least I didn't blow too much money on drinks at your estab.
But who cares! I saw a huge blow-up monkey, a dancing butcher holding a pig's head, and a decked-out chicken blowing his feathers everywhere for the last half the show - and who can ever forget the always enjoyable 2 bottles of champagne splooged all over the crowd?
Overall a trip well worth making. GO SEE MODESELEKTOR WHENEVER YOU GET THE DAMN CHANCE!!!
Recommended tracks (either buy them or scope them out on hypem/beatport/amazon):
The First Rebirth
Deboutonner [feat. Siriusmo]
The Wedding Toccata Theme
Get Wasted In Silence
Dancing Box [feat. TTC]
Ziq Zaq
In Loving Memory
remix of Knifehandchop's Weed Wid da Macka [feat. Ninjaman]
and definitely their 3rd installment to the Boogy Bytes series!
