Artist of the Day: Propa Tingz

Propa Tingz, aka BreakBeatBuddha, originally from the UK, now holds it down in the Bay Area. His style is described as, "a devious, bass-heavy blend of Breaks and glitched-out, Dancehall vibes for the Headz." He's collaborated with some big artists like KRS 1, Bassnectar, Busta Rhymes, Mala Rodriguez and Beenie Man. He's widely known as the pioneer of 'Glitch-Step' - a combo of Bay Area Hyphy, Dirty South Crunk, UK Bass and Glitch. Check out this vid from his last tour:

Artist of the Day: Akira Kiteshi

From Last.fm, "Akira Kiteshi is Edinburgh based producer Tommy Forrest. His sound ranges from almost un-danceable wonk and glitch-hop to club bangers, dubstep and organic soundscapes."

That pretty much sums him up.

This guy is comin up big, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is a household name among djs by the end of the year. Gizmo turned me onto him a week or two ago with one of his recent singles on Black Acre Records called 'Pinball' - which is ILL.

The main excitement for me though is Akira Kiteshi's exclusive mix for Electronic Explorations (show 071, 04.02.09), Rob Booth's (aka Surgeon) fantastic radio show. The mix is called 'Chive Hunny and the Plaster Fixers Bukakke Special'.

Artist of the Day: BASSNECTAR

This guy Lorin Ashton (aka Bassnectar), and all his San Fran buddies - they know how to make some phatty bass. I first saw this guy @ Langerado 2008 and he blew me away. Saw him again @ Paradise later in 2008, which was another CRASS experience.

Bassnectar samples a ton of shit, and never overdoes certain sounds in each song, which I appreciate. This guy tours a lot, so be sure to catch him next time he's around your neighborhood.
